What is Placenta Encapsulation?

The placenta is the only organ created from life, not death.

It forms to nourish, sustain, and connect you with your baby, and once birth is complete, it still holds immense potential to support your healing.

Placenta encapsulation is the process of transforming this sacred organ into capsules you can ingest postpartum. Using the gentle Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method, the placenta is cleaned, steamed, dehydrated, ground, and encapsulated.

This gentle approach honors the organ’s full process. I hold every step of the process with deep reverence for you, your baby, and the lineage you’re part of.

Why Mothers Choose This

The placenta plays a vital role during pregnancy, producing hormones, transferring oxygen and nutrients, and supporting immune protection for your baby. It’s a rich source of bioavailable iron, B vitamins, stem cells, and reproductive hormones like oxytocin, estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin.

When encapsulated and consumed postpartum, the placenta may help support the body’s transition out of pregnancy by offering some of these same compounds back to the mother.

While every experience is unique, many report:

✺ Mood stability & emotional grounding (possibly linked to retained oxytocin and progesterone)

✺ Increased energy and clarity (due to iron and B vitamin content)

✺ Enhanced milk supply (support from prolactin and hormonal support)

✺ Replenishment of key minerals like iron and zinc

✺ A deeper sense of connection to the birth process and postpartum healing

While clinical evidence is still emerging what we do know is this, your placenta was made for you. It supported you through pregnancy, and now, it may support you again.

FAQ

  • ✺How many capsules will I receive?

Most placentas yield between 100-120 capsules, depending on size and hydration.

  • ✺What’s included in the starter package?

Size 00 unflavored gelatin placenta capsules (typically 100–120) as well as storage and dosage instructions, dehydrated cord keepsake shaped into a heart or spiral, placenta print with your choice of natural blood print or colors of your choice, and placenta seeds which includes a small portion of dried placenta and wildflower seeds to plant beneath in your garden or land you feel called too.

  • ✺When should I book?

Anytime is welcome, but the ideal window is before 37 weeks. Last minute births can usually still be accommodated for, don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • ✺ How long does it take?

Once your baby is born and your placenta is ready, I’ll be on call to come pick it up within 4-6 hours. From there, the process usually takes 24-72 hours. I’ll hand deliver your capsules, keepsakes, and tincture (if you added one), along with instructions and suggestions for use.

  • ✺ Is it ever too late to encapsulate?

Not necessarily, it all comes down to storage. If your placenta was placed in the fridge within 2-4 hours of birth, you’re good for up to 3 days. If frozen within that time window, it can be encapsulated months later (even up to 6 months in a standard freezer, or a full year in a deep freezer). So if you’re unsure, freeze it now and decide later.

  • ✺ What if I’m GBS positive?

Totally okay. I follow a strict protocol that exceeds safety standards, including steaming and dehydrating your placenta at temperatures proven to eliminate GBS and other bacteria. Your safety is always top priority.

  • ✺ What’s the recommended dosage?

I’ll provide clear instructions when I deliver your capsules, but here’s the general rhythm:

    -Week 1: 3 capsules, 3x/day
    -Week 2: 2 capsules, 2x/day
-After that: 1 capsule daily until you’re done or interested in tincturing what’s left.

  • ✺ When is it not safe to encapsulate?

In certain cases, I may not be able to encapsulate your placenta:

-If it wasn’t stored properly (on ice or refrigerated within 4 hours of birth)
-If you had an infection or fever during labor
    -Chorioamnionitis diagnosis
-If placenta was sent to pathology
-Certain conditions like HIV/AIDS, active herpes lesions at birth, PUPPP rash
-Heavy meconium staining (light/moderate can sometimes be processed with extra care)

  • ✺ Can I still encapsulate if I have a cesarean or an induction?

Yes! Medications used during these births don’t make the placenta unsafe. Whether your baby is born vaginally or via cesarean, the placenta can still be encapsulated, the process remains the same.

  • ✺ What if I’m having twins (or more)?

If your babies share one placenta, I process as usual. If there are two placentas, I will prepare them separately so you can track what’s supporting you best.
